Regenerative Braking
Regenerative braking is used in full hybrids to recover brake energy that helps recharge batteries and provide energy to stop the vehicle. "Regen" braking delivers approximately 7 percent fuel efficiency across a range of driving conditions.
TRW Automotive's approach to regenerative braking is to offer modular braking systems for both hybrid and non-hybrid applications, including:
- Slip Control Boost (SCB) for larger SUVs. This technology integrates electronic stability functionality with regenerative braking capabilities for hyrid or vacuumless high-pressure brake applications.
- Electronic Slip Control-Regenerative (ESC-R) is a modular system that adds a brake volume displacement simulator. It also works seamlessly with hybrid and other alternative powertrains. ESC-R is scalable across segments.
