Lateral Support (LDW / LKA / LG)

Component PDF:

TRW's Lateral Support systems include Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Lane Guidance (LG). These technologies use a forward-facing video camera mounted behind the rearview mirror to detect lane markings alongside many types of roadways.

Lane Departure Warning

LDW is comparable to a virtual road rumble. Drivers who unintentionally cross a road lane marking or the edge of the road receive a visual, audible or haptic warning that allows them to correct the situation. Haptic feedback options include a vibrating steering wheel.

Lane Keeping Assist

LKA takes information from a video sensor and integrates it with TRW's electric steering (EPS) system, providing a counter-steering torque to help guide the driver back to the center of the lane. The limited corrective steering torque alerts drivers to adjust the vehicle trajectory.

Lane Guidance

Lane Guidance applies a continuous torque to the steering wheel, keeping the vehicle in the center of the lane. The induced torque is generated by the EPS system.

Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Guidance can be overruled by the driver at any time.
